Our Mission

Creatives of Color BOSTON, is a collective dedicated to the creation of intersectional safe spaces for BIPOC artists to connect and create together, while also celebrating and uplifting the voices and work of BIPOC artists from in and around the Boston area.

To achieve this, CCB plans three core events throughout the year:
  1. Annual spring exhibition;
  2. the Sunflower series; and
  3. the #GivingToYourselfWeek series of events.

HISTORY

In early 2019, Tammi and Janette were hanging out and somehow the conversation turned towards, what they had perceived up to that point, as a scarcity of resources and support currently being offered to BIPOC artists in Boston. What blossomed from that hangout was Creatives of Color BOSTON's inaugural one-day popup exhibition, "In-Between Spaces" at Makeshift Boston, which explored the topic of code-switching in July 2019 (on the hottest day of the year!). Since then, CCB has continued to operate under the goal of providing BIPOC artists the space and support they need in an oftentimes less than ideal climate.

Tammi Jean Fedestin (She/Her/Her's)
Founding Co-Director
Thamar “Tammi” Jean Fedestin is a Boston-born arts administrator and artist with over a decade of experience in the non-profit sector. Tammi is a queer Haitian woman with a fascination for all things nerdy and creepily cute. She currently holds a BA in Arts Management from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, MA. Tammi has worked in a variety of settings, which allowed her to grow her skills as an administrator, graphic designer, and, sometimes, emergency seamstress. Her favorite thing in the world is to see someone being their most authentic selves. Seeing people embracing all aspects of themselves brings Tammi immense joy. Offers administrative support to the dance company, Jean Appolon Expressions. She also runs a virtual art gallery on her website, Cosmic Zo.

Genie Santiago (She/Her/Her's)

Co-Director
Genie Santiago is a singer, poet, and visual artist based out of Boston. Emerging from rough beginnings, her art draws from her experience growing up as a poor, Queer Latina and a survivor of sexual abuse. Her life and identity have
inspired her mission to use her art to empower others to overcome trauma, decolonize the mind, promote sexual freedom, and stray from the ideals of self-hatred that society places upon us.
